Paul Schrader Honoured with Screenwriting Award at Inaugural Film Festival in the Cayman Islands
Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands – Legendary screenwriter, film director and film critic Paul Schrader was recently honoured at the inaugural CayFilm Cayman International Film Festival for Outstanding Achievement in Screenwriting, an accolade that will in the future be called the Paul Schrader Award for Achievement in Screenwriting as a tribute to Schrader.
Schrader, who is perhaps best known for classics such as Taxi Driver, American Gigolo, Raging Bull and The Last Temptation of Christ, was in Grand Cayman to accept the award which was presented by actor Brian Cox (The Bourne Trilogy, Red, X-Men 2, Braveheart).
“Paul’s journey has always been, from the beginning, propelled by the work,” said Cox. “He is exemplary. He has understood the dark and lonely night of the soul. He is rooted in his unstinting honesty as an artist to declare the heart of the lonely soul.”
Accepting the award, Schrader praised CayFilm, calling the Festival “very interesting and valuable in the larger world of film knowledge, film distribution and film exhibition.”
“CayFilm is extremely proud to honour Mr. Schrader in our inaugural year and showcase his incredible work,” said Tony Mark, Festival Director. “Naming the Outstanding Achievement Award in Screenwriting after him indeed gives future writers something to which they can aspire.”
